Words That Matter

I’m not new to this writing thing.

Back in 2016, I felt the nudge to start a blog to encourage others to rest in God's goodness. Mornings were sacred then. I’d wake before the kids stirred (they were little back then), coffee in hand, and pour my heart onto the page. No overthinking, no strategy—just writing what God placed on my heart.

I’d hit “post” on my blog and share it to social media. That was it. Simple.

I also had a newsletter, and every two weeks, I’d send out words meant to remind people that God is good, even in the mess. There were no algorithms, no engagement hacks, just honest encouragement.

It all felt so simple.

Now? Now, there’s pressure. Pressure to make reels, to dance (I refuse), to talk into a camera, to stay in my “niche,” to post on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads—and oh, don’t forget Substack! Every marketing guru has a system for posting the right content at the right time to reach a bigger audience.

Apparently, writing isn’t enough anymore. We’re told we have to grow our platform, build our brand, and market ourselves because words alone won’t carry us.

I don’t know about you, but I’m just plain tired. My soul feels weary from the constant need to keep up. Since AI entered the scene, the market has been shifting so fast that it’s hard to find solid ground.

And yet—the calling hasn’t changed.

Yesterday, I sat with one of my grief clients, and she reminded me of that very thing. She looked at me and said, “Lea, your newsletters are so anointed by God. They speak right to me.”

Were they? Because honestly, I didn’t feel like they were. Lately, writing them has felt like just another task to check off the list. They felt rushed, and I’ve spent less time crafting my words and listening to the Spirits leading.

But this morning, as I sat before the Lord, Bible open, He gently reminded me why I do this. Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 2:4 spoke straight to my heart:

"My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power."

There it is, my writing friends. We don’t write to impress, to keep up, or to outsmart AI. We write through the power of the Holy Spirit—because it is His power that changes lives. Not trends. Not algorithms. Not striving.

So, take a deep breath. Remember why He called you in the first place and rest in the truth that when we abide in Him, our words will always matter.

And one last thing: keep showing up—not in the ways the world demands, but in the ways that truly matter because the world needs Holy Spirit-filled words of encouragement.
